Hachibei is a contemporary basement izakaya in Roppongi specializing in the most amazing classic yakitori skewers locals love most about izakaya food.
One of the really great things about Hachibei is the yakitori is actually grilled over charcoal. I know that probably sound strange, but there are many izakaya who grill over gas grills.
Not saying they’re bad, but there’s a certain something a proper charcoal grill brings to the flavor. The singed edges and smokiness of it just really makes the yakitori pop.
Hachibei isn’t strictly a yakitori shop either. They serve all sorts of kushiyaki that I’m certain you’ll enjoy.
Things like seasonal vegetables, pork belly, and they even have deep-fried edamame! That’s not a normal dish so check it out if you come here.
If you’re a wine lover you’ll find Hachibei a welcome comfort. Normal izakaya will have real cheap wine in only a couple of varieties. But not Hachibei.
They have dozens of wines available to suite your palette.
Is it good for groups?
If you have a smaller group of eight or less, they have private rooms available. This makes the experience so much nicer.
Sectioning you away from others and allowing you, your family, and friends to more fully absorb the atmosphere and enjoy the delicious food.
How much does Hachibei cost?
This isn’t one of those cheap izakaya (hey, not knocking them, they’re awesome too), you’re going to get an elegant experience and incredible quality food here.
I would expect to spend between ¥4,000 to ¥8,000 per person, depending totally on how much you eat — but more on how much you drink. If you choose to drink wine they have some ¥12,000+ bottles to choose from.
The good news is they do accept credit cards, but I’d bring some cash just in case.
Also, there’s no parking here so if you plan to drive keep in mind parking costs.
