Iyaiya Sanbai: As Unbelievable As It Is, A No Smoking Izakaya!

Updated October 31, 2019, by C. Thiele, 23 year veteran of Tokyo.

Iyaiya Sanbai is a trendsetting, no-smoking izakaya trying to take the traditional izakaya mainstream in Minato, Tokyo.

Is Iyaiya Sanbai English friendly?

Surprisingly, yes. I mean, it’s not the most English friendly place, but the staff can speak some, so that helps a lot.

The menus aren’t in English though, but they have big pictures which makes it very easy to order.

Is it good for groups?

Yes, it is. You can fit a decent size party here no problem, but I would make reservations just in case — they can get quite busy. And if they are busy you may be limited to 2 hours and 30 minutes.

The cool thing is you can make reservations online here.

How much does Iyaiya Sanbai cost?

This is an izakaya. A nice one at that, in a part of town that isn’t cheap. Of course, it depends entirely on how much you order, but I would plan to spend ¥3,000-¥5,000 per person, especially if drinking alcohol.

Course meals start at ¥3,000 and go up to ¥5,000, with drinks on top.
